The 46th Annual Kansas City Film Critics awards (called the Loutzenhiser Awards named after Kansas City Film Critics Circle founder James Loutzenhiser) were held last night. “The Descendants,” “The Tree of Life,” and “Beginners” each received two awards.
Here are the winners as picked by the second oldest critic’s organization in the country:
Best Picture: “The Descendants”
Robert Altman Award for Best Director: Terrence Malick, “The Tree of Life”
Best Actor: George Clooney, “The Descendants”
Best Actress: Kirsten Dunst, “Melancholia”
Best Supporting Actor: Christopher Plummer, “Beginners”
Best Supporting Actress: Jessica Chastain, “The Tree of Life”
Best Adapted Screenplay: “Moneyball”
Best Original Screenplay: “Beginners”
Best Animated Film: “Rango”
Best Foreign Language Film: “A Separation”
Best Documentary: “Cave of Forgotten Dreams”
Vince Koehler Award for Best Science Fiction, Fantasy or Horror Film: “Hugo”

Really exciting that the awards were all over the map this year. Super proud of our group and their willingness to pick some great films to honor.
And ‘Drive’ was just edged out of best picture. There was a passionate and vocal minority fighting for it. Totally awesome.
