New York magazine’s Vulture is reporting that Sony will be announcing a deal with director Marc Webb (“(500) Days of Summer”) to direct three movies in the rebooted “Spider-Man” franchise.
This will be more teen-oriented supposedly, and “will focus far more on the private life of Peter Parker.” Another reason for the huge change, according to Vulture? Webb and a young cast will be considerably cheaper than Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire, and Kirsten Dunst.
As we heard last week, a reboot script by Jamie Vanderbilt is being used for the new “Spider-Man” series. Whether this will be a re-do of the origin story or the further adventures of Spidey in high school remains to be seen.
I have to say, I’m pretty disappointed. As disappointing as “Spider-Man 3” was, the second film still stands as one of the best comic book movies ever made and that should count for something. I understand that its big business, but creatively, I would have liked to have seen how Raimi would have atoned for the last one…
UPDATE: Thank God. AMC Entertainment reports New Spider-Man will NOT go into origin story again!

I wonder if that wiener is going to say things like, “I really wanted to make a different superhero movie that is completely original” when he goes a Q and A for Spiderman. Man, this dude is a such a wiener. 500 Days of Summer wasn’t trendsetting at all wiener.
