This review of “Thor” appears on KTKA-49. Thor may be a God from Norse mythology, but the guy portrayed by Chris Hemsworth in the new fantasy-action movie “Thor” is based on “The Mighty Thor,” a Marvel comic that first appeared in 1962. Bottom line: The premise is ultra-silly, but the movie works. Just listen to […]

This review of “The Green Hornet” 3D Blu-ray/DVD combo pack appears on KTKA-49. Well, all the buzz in the home video market this year has been around Blu-ray and 3D technology. With the pricing of HDTVs going down and their availability going up, Blu-rays are certainly catching on, but what will become of 3D at […]

This review of the “Fast Five” appears on KTKA-49. Supposedly, the fifth movie in the “Fast and Furious” franchise—titled “Fast Five”—takes place before the third movie, but after the fourth. If that sounds like it’s going to make this a tricky film to follow, don’t worry—it’s not. “Fast Five” is a dumb, ridiculous movie filled […]

It’s been 11 years since Wes Craven made a “Scream” movie, and in “Scream 4,” he pokes more fun at horror conventions, updating the jabs to include the “Saw” series, among other things. Sidney Prescott (played by Neve Campbell) returns home on the 15th anniversary of the killings in the first film, but—like “Saw”—the “Stab” series of movies based on her story is on its seventh film.

Here’s my review of “Your Highness” from KTKA-49. It’s difficult to explain the level of disappointment I felt after watching “Your Highness,” a lazy medieval comedy starring Danny McBride, James Franco and Natalie Portman. In an interview from last year, director David Gordon Green said: “I haven’t pulled the script out in more than four […]

Scene-Stealers Editor-in-Chief Eric Melin and a gaggle of guest reviewers take on Zack Snyder‘s (300, Watchmen) latest cinematic assault, the girl-powered action fantasy “Sucker Punch.” Will Snyder’s fetish for stylized sexuality and violence translate into something bigger than the sum of its pop-art influences? Find out in this review of Sucker Punch (2011) starring Emily […]

Here’s my review of the new Simon Pegg/Nick Frost movie “Paul” from KTKA-49. Together with director Edgar Wright, actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost created two of the funniest and most loving tributes to genre films in recent memory: The zombie spoof “Shaun of the Dead” and the action movie “Hot Fuzz.” The duo returns […]

Here’s my review of the new Matt Damon movie “The Adjustment Bureau” from KTKA-49. Philip K. Dick, the science fiction author whose works were the basis for “Blade Runner” and “Minority Report,” is famous for his far-out concepts. Movie adaptations of his work usually take the premise from Dick and little else because his ideas […]

“Cedar Rapids” (2011) straddles the line between vulgarity and sweetness—often times in the same moment. Ed Helms stars as a wide-eyed insurance agent from Wisconsin who graduates to the big leagues when he attends a national conference in an Iowa hotel.
