This one Jodi and I had to drive to Kansas City for, and it was totally worth it. We had seen the play in its limited run there as well (the only place outside of NYC that it was ever performed, I was told), and I think I liked the movie even better.
It’s not often that someone writes a glam/punk rock musical about an East German immigrant with a botched sex-change operation who lives in a trailer park in Junction City, then goes on tour across the country with his/her band, shadowing much bigger shows by his/her ex-boyfriend whose songs he/she all wrote, and is suing for royalties and some much deserved credit, all the while having a sexual identity crisis (no wonder). So, dammit, when that kind of a motion picture appears, it’s my duty as a movie fan to attend.
The songs are catchy, it’s very funny, oddly moving, and all strange and fantastic.
