It has now been a decade since the lovable British bear Paddington made his big screen debut. I remember in 2017 when Paddington 2 was released, it hit the rare 100% on whatever film scoring site, and by gosh, that was no mistake. In his latest adventure, Paddington in Peru (directed by Dougal Wilson), Paddington is once again having a fun romp back in his native lands full of heartwarming hilarity.

Paddington (Ben Whishaw) has lived comfortably with the Brown family in England. Henry (Hugh Bonneville) is having troubles at work, Mary (Emily Mortimer) is feeling an empty nest while daughter Judy (Madeleine Harris) is applying to university and son Jonathan (Samuel Joslin) spends his time in his room. When Paddington receives a letter from Peru from The Reverend Mother (Olivia Colman) alerting him that his dear Aunt Lucy (Imelda Staunton) hasn’t been well, Paddington, the Browns and Mrs. Bird (Julie Walters) heads to Peru in order to find out what’s wrong, while also having a family bonding trip!

In Peru, Paddington soon discovers Lucy is missing! While searching the jungles, they meet boatman Hunter Cabot (Antonio Banderas) and his daughter Gina (Carla Tous) who want to help, but also have a background that threatens the trip. Will Paddington find his Aunt Lucy before it’s too late?

I loved this film. A film series should be winding down by the third in a franchise, and yet, this one ended up being my favorite. It’s very adventurous, and Paddington reminded me of Indiana Jones, hat and all!

The addition of Olivia Colman who is WONDERFUL in her comedic timing and Antonio Banderas who is having a blast here made me smile through the whole feature. Paddington has now been a staple in my household for ten years. I love introducing these movies to new people because they just bring about a wonderful sense of love and warmth.

And in this day and age, we need both of those. I absolutely need about twenty more of these wonderful flicks. The bear has captured my heart!

Christian Ramos is a classic film fan, having had the dream to host Turner Classic Movies for years now. He also has a large amount of Oscar trivia in his head, remembers dressing as Groucho Marx one Halloween, and cherishes the moment Julianne Moore liked his tweet.
